From the Pastor

On behalf of the congregation of Peninsula Evangelical Friends Church, I invite you to visit us. We are a rural church made up of just plain folk who love the Lord and one another. We also have a desire to see the Lord change the lives of the people we meet in our daily lives.

We want to build our lives upon the principles and commands given by our Lord in His Word, the Bible, therefore, we teach from the Scriptures. Preaching is primarily expository, verse by verse, even when addressing smaller topical studies. Our Sunday School classes are built upon the foundation of the Scriptures. The adults study book-by-book while the children’s class is a through-the-Bible study.

Our Meeting for Worship is designed with the description of the earliest church in mind:  And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. We begin with a time of singing praises to the Lord and Scripture reading. We sing a mix of Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs that are designed to honor the Lord and feed the soul. The music is followed by a time of worshiping the Lord through the preaching of the Scriptures; that is to say, the preaching of and partaking in the Words that have proceeded from the mouth of the Lord, since we live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

The singing and teaching is then followed by a time of fellowship through prayer. We share prayer requests with and pray for one another. Each month we extend the fellowship into a time of breaking bread together around the “brunch” table in a “bring-and-share/potluck” style of meal, generally on the fourth Sundays of the month. On the fifth Sunday months, we also celebrate the physical elements of the Lord’s Table/Communion.

The Scripture reminds us that our natural tendency is to think according to the philosophies and traditions of the world (Colossians 2:8; 1 Corinthians 2:6-13; ) and that we need to have our minds transformed through the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:1-2) so that we may understand the mind of Christ (Proverbs 1:7; Isaiah 55:6-11; 2 Corinthians 10:5; 1 Corinthians 2:14-16).

Our preaching is focused upon the big picture need of learning to think like Christ, for “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 4:20-27; Matthew 15:17-20). Through His Word, God has given us all that we need to be fully equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As we learn to think like Christ, we will grow in our ability to apply His Word to every aspect of how we live. We will find our worldview becoming more and more like that of our Creator, we will become more and more like the one whom we worship. This will influence how we relate to God, to others, and most especially to those who are closest to us. The daily needs and decisions will be instructed by the wisdom of God. To put it another way, instead of having to learn myriad different plays our coach has designed, we will learn to think like the Coach. Then, we will be able to test and approve the will of the Lord for every situation (Romans 12:2), and His Spirit will enable us to obey His will (Galatians 2:19-20; Romans 8:14-17).
